There is a conjugated vaccine undergoing clinical trials which shows a reduction in cocaine dependence. In this case, the vaccine works by antibodies inoculation to our blood system. This antibodies attatch to cocaine and prevent it from crossing the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain causing effects like euphoria. 38% of the vaccinated population ended up having an adequate antiboy level being high for about 2 months, before they needed a booster vaccine. Higher antibody levels are more efficient than lower ones.
Immunotherapy is promising in reducing dependences to nicotine, heroin and methamphetamines as well.
